Empeltre, the hidden treasure in Calaceite.
The variety of our olive is Empeltre. This olive was introduced to our region by the Greeks and Phoenicians more than 2,500 years ago and, due to the high quality it offers, also thanks to the climatic characteristics of the region, we still continue to cultivate the Empeltre olive variety.
These olives have a low oil content, but the one obtained from them is soft, without bitterness and of higher quality.
In the Empeltre olive oil of early harvest the olives are still green and the olive oil that is obtained has a more greenbear color and a more pronounced aroma and flavor. With the later harvest we get softer olive oil.
Empeltre olive oil from Biocalaceite is a food with a high content of monounsaturated fatty acids, which helps us maintain normal cholesterol levels and protects us from cognitive decline, related to aging and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, it contains a high content of vitamin E and polyphenols, which contribute to the protection of cells against oxidative damage.
